The status of state-wide testing is unknown at this time - we will keep everyone updated as things change. The Montana Office of Public Instruction has created a public-facing FAQ page which they are updating regularly.
From OPI on March 20: The U.S. Department of Education has said that states are allowed to submit a one-year waiver to waive requirements for assessment, accountability, and reporting for states and local education agencies under ESSA. The OPI is in the process of submitting this one-year waiver and should know Montana's approval status within one business day. Please see Secretary DeVos' memo on the details of this simplified state waiver process. Any comments on this waiver should be directed to [email protected].

3/24/20 @ 11:40 AM Montana Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton T. Christian Announced: Rather than allowing the test to be canceled, my office worked directly with the ACT organization to reschedule the exam for this fall. By rescheduling the test to a regular school day in October, we will be able to provide all Montana students the opportunity to take the exam free of charge. Schools will have the ability to administer the ACT on October 6, 2020 to next year's seniors.
Pre-ACTThe window for the Pre-ACT, which is not a required assessment, has been extended to May 22. Schools will determine whether or not to reschedule for this year once we know more about the extent of the closures.
APThe College Board has cancelled traditional, in-person AP testing. Instead, they will have students test at home. The schedule for tests will be released during the first week in April. It is important that students continue engaging with AP material so it is fresh in mind when it is time to test. The tests will be constructed to contain material students should have covered in class by the first part of March. The College Board has assured districts that they have had to do this before to accommodate for natural disasters, and colleges have still accepted test scores.
