Many doc cams can be used to record audio and video… could you talk through what you would do at the board, and post it to Google Classroom? If your doc cam does not have that capability, your smartphone could do the same. You don’t have to record yourself standing and presenting… you could set your phone up just to focus on a piece of paper on which you are writing, and talk through what you are doing. Get creative and think of higher and lower tech ways of accomplishing the same ends. Look at these ideas on creating a DIY doc cam at home with your smart phone!
The DOs and DON’Ts of Recording Yourself
The DOs and DON’Ts of Recording Yourself
- DON’T get hung up on the hems and haws we all do when talking… it doesn’t matter.
- DON’T play it back and watch it over and over - you will make yourself crazy.
- DO keep the recordings to five minutes or shorter. At the end of a two to five minute segment, have the student do something - process information in some way - you do that in your classroom - because it’s a good practice!
